Ceiling Fan Size Calculator

Quickly determine the recommended fan blade span, mounting type, and whether one or multiple fans are best for your room based on size, ceiling height, and room use.

How it works

Enter room length and width to compute square footage, add ceiling height and room use (bedroom, living room, kitchen, covered outdoor). The tool suggests a blade span, mounting style (hugger / standard / downrod), and whether additional fans are recommended for very large or oddly-shaped rooms.

Quick reference

  • Small rooms (≤75 sq ft): 29″–36″ blades
  • Medium (76–144 sq ft): 36″–42″
  • Large (145–225 sq ft): 44″–50″
  • Very large (225+ sq ft): 52″+ or multiple fans

Mounting: ceilings < 8 ft → hugger/flush; 8–9 ft → short downrod; >9 ft → longer downrod (mounting should provide ~8–9 ft clearance from floor to blade). For sloped ceilings use an angled adapter rated by the manufacturer.
